“With no particular end use in mind, I’ve been collecting ‘junque,’ curios, symbols and quotations for years. Blending handcraft techniques and recycling, I explore ways for art to become useful and for useful objects to become art.
Enjoying the pleasure in creating functional art, Kate Grenier has handmade this clock, using her hammered aluminum technique and transforming recycled bottle caps into clock numbers.
I contrast materials with content to emphasize their common elements, as in the metaphoric unity of sensuous poetry with the coldness of the aluminum. My art is a backward glance at special moments in my life.
That life includes growing up on a Montana ranch, a degree in art from UCLA, and worldwide travels that inspire her reinterpretation of form and function.
